- Did you know that there is more than type of PVA?
- Are you paying more than is necessary for adhesives by buying products described as “mosaic glue”?
- Do you know which “emergency glue” will quickly re-stick a piece that has fallen off when you are grouting?
- Do you know what materials (base, tiles, adhesives) cannot be used outdoors?
- Do you know how to prepare the surface before applying your mosaic tiles?
- Do you know why you need to prepare the surface and what may happen if you do not?
- Do you know which adhesive to use under water (eg birdbath)?

Date: Saturday 26th May

GLASS CUTTING
This session covers all aspects of cutting complex shapes in glass.
For mosaic students, these skills will enable you to work from larger sheets of stained glass, instead of being confined to small tiles. In fact, you will be able to save money by cutting your own tiles in whatever size that you choose. Including whole shapes (e.g. flower petals), in your designs will add a new dimension to your work, and help to delineate the subject from the fragmented background.
This session may also benefit those of you who have been working with glass for some time. Many students who have worked with glass for years have found this session extremely beneficial, telling me that in the first 15 minutes alone, they learnt things that they did not know about their tools, and how to use them correctly. This session will improve your technique and correct bad (and possibly dangerous) habits.
- Does the glass frequently break away from the score line, or not break at all?
- Do you have difficulty following the line and as a consequence, spend far too much time grinding?
- Do you know in what order to cut a complex shape and why?
- Do you know what running pliers are, how to use them and what the screw is for?
- Are you using your grozing pliers upside down, or do you just avoid using them altogether?
- Can you cut a straight line with a ruler? Which side of the ruler do you use and in which direction do you cut?
Number of Sessions: 1
Date: Saturday 19th May
- Course Fee: $38.00 including materials and tool hire.
Enrolment: Phone 62919158 or email glasswares@optusnet.com.au
