GLASS ART INTRODUCTION

To work in any medium, the artist must understand the nature of the materials used. This 3 hour course assists students identify possibilities for exploration as well as some limitations of current techniques. The course examines the nature of glass through the history of its discovery, manufacture and development of various glass art techniques.
The course also provides a brief introduction to contemporary glass art techniques including leadlight and copper foiling; glass fusing and slumping; casting; and blowing. From a practical perspective, the course provides the student with essential glass cutting skills including cutting straight lines, curves and circles.
