Leadlighting

Depending on the country in which you live, leadlighting and stained glass may mean different things. In Australia, leadlighting usually refers to the use of lead and putty to fix pieces of glass together to form a design, whether it be in a window, transom, small panel, etc.

Stained glass often refers to the process of copper foiling or the colouring of clear glass with paints and varnishes to simulate leadlight.

Our work with leadlight includes the creation of free-hanging leadlight panels, the design of leadlights to your specification as well as the repair and restoration of existing leadlights.

Leadlight Panels

These panels are designed to hang inside existing windows.  This enables you to move the panel between rooms or even between houses so as to enjoy the beauty and benefits of coloured natural light without the expense or inconvenience of having built in windows.

C ommissions

We are very happy to make panels to suit your windows, doors or walls.  We ensure that all panels to be built in comply with relevant Australian Standards.  We have a comprehensive, computer based design service which can provide a coloured representation of the finished panel together with a precise costing.

Repairs

Unfortunately leadlights can be broken by accident or require renovation or rebuilding as the materials age (in our experience even well maintained leadlight will need renovation after about 80 years).  We specialise in repairing old leadlights, including sourcing hard to find glass for the best match to the original.
